The name William Shakespeare is associated with the Globe Theatre. It was opened in 1599.The original structure lasted for 14 years. But in 1613 an obnoxious ablaze took place which burnt the whole ground during the performance of Shakespeare’s Henry VIII. Though the Theatre was rebuilt but unfortunately it was destroyed by the Puritans as they didn’t want any sort of Theatrical Intervention. After the excavation work in 1989 the original place of the theatre however revealed.
The New Globe
The New Globe Theatre was inspired by the Elizabethan Period. The structure was mainly the brainchild of the famous actor & director Sam Wanamaker. Theo Crosby was the Architect mainly & it is located 200 yards away from the original site. Like all the typical theatres The Globe Theatre also contains the circular extended stage. The plays are here held only in the summer months because only the expensive seats are covered & the rest are left exposed. There is an additional standing room which allows those people who don’t mind remaining erect because standing on the yard is not allowed.
